The study recently released by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), “Linking Poverty and the Environment: Evidence from Slums in Philippine Cities,” written by PIDS research fellow Marife Ballesteros, which we featured in our Friday-Saturday edition, reminds us of this cautionary fable about the dangers and risks of living in the city even as it offers attendant benefits.
