The Regional Development Council – Private Sector Representatives (RDC – PSRs) across the 15 regions of the Country gathered for the 12th RDC National Convention (NatCon) on 28-29 April 2021 via teleconference. This year’s Convention was hosted by Caraga RDC, with the theme “PSRs’ role in the regions’ recovery and resiliency.” Among others, the Convention provided a venue for the PSRs to discuss matters pertaining to their instrumental role in attaining recovery and resiliency towards regional development amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick T. Chua served as the Keynote Speaker for the said event. In his message, he encouraged the PSRs to know the facts, contribute solutions, and share the good news. “If we do all of this, our economic and development prospects will be much better because all of us are working together,” he said.
Gov. Dale B. Corvera, Caraga RDC Chairperson, emphasized in his message the role of the PSRs as the government’s partners for economic recovery. “I believe that the synergy that the RDC-PSRs can create all over the country over a national issue can create a difference and make a significant change in our society,” he remarked.
The first day of the Convention featured topics that discussed on the PSRs’ role in national recovery and resiliency within these sectors or areas, viz:
1. “National COVID-19 Vaccination Plan” by Dir. Napoleon L. Arevalo of the Department of Health (DOH);
2. “Innovations in Agriculture” by Dr. Feliciano G. Calero, Jr. of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD);
3. “Resiliency through Digital Transformation” by Dr. Francis Mark A. Quimba of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS); and
4. “Achieving AmBisyon Natin 2040 through Sustainable Finance” by Asec. Paola A. Alvarez of the Department of Finance (DOF).
The second day of the Convention highlighted the Business Meeting which focused on the regional issues and concerns with national significance.
The Convention also showcased the Country’s cultural diversity through the sablays and regional accents worn by the PSRs. To generate online engagement, the Convention was aired via Facebook Live in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga.
