An economist yesterday suggested measures to curb the influx of imported vehicles – used or not – and ensure the local assembly industry of growing base without resorting to discriminatory tax measures. Rafaelita Aldaba, senior research fellow at the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) said in an interview the country could tap safeguard measures under Asean as a way to ward off imports, that is, if it is able to prove injury to its local industry.
