CANDAHUG, Palo, Leyte, July 17 -- Heads of delegations of Regional Development Council (RDC) Private Sector Representatives (PSRs) from all over the country tackled salient issues amidst the COVID-19 pandemic during the business meeting of the RDC-PSR National Convention – Virtual Edition on June 30, 2020.
Among those passed during the meeting are: Request for the Private Sector to be represented in the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases (RIATF-EID), Regional Task Force (RTF) COVID-19, and its monitoring bodies; Request for the DICT and NTC to speed up and enhance the construction of the country’s ICT infrastructure; and Request the national government, through the Inter-agency Mining Industry Coordinating Council (MICC), to revisit the ban on the issuance of new mining permits and request for the lifting and development of the mining industry to contribute to the recovery programs of the government, subject to the strict implementation of and compliance to environmental protection laws; among others.
The issues that these resolutions aim to address are a product of consultations by PSRs from all over the country with their respective sectors from business groups to basic sectors. They will be sent to concerned agencies and local government units (LGUs) for appropriate action.
The business meeting was followed by the closing program for the 11th RDC-PSR National Convention. RDC Caraga formally accepted the hosting duties for the 12th edition of the Convention, with the hope that a physical gathering would be allowed by then.
NEDA Undersecretary Adoracion M. Navarro formally closed the Convention, thanking all the participants for taking time off their busy schedules. She highlighted the need for ‘malasakit’ in this time of pandemic to ensure that no one is left behind.
She also took advantage of the activity to give her thanks to all the NEDA Regional Offices and RDCs as she is leaving for the Philippine Institute for Development Studies in July. (NEDA-8)
