The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) will hold an internal seminar on November 18, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the PIDS Conference Hall and via Zoom. The event will feature the study “Multidimensional poverty: A new thinking on measurement” authored by Dr. Nanak Kakwani, appointed Distinguished Fellow of the Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation in India, and former Chief Economist.
The study argues that poverty should be defined not only by capability deprivation but also by individuals' access to necessary resources. It proposes a new method to measure poverty that integrates both capability and resource aspects, challenging current assumptions. Policy implications of this approach will be discussed to better address poverty's complex nature.
Participation is by invitation. Catch the recording of the event on the PIDS YouTube channel.
