The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), in partnership with the Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), will hold a public webinar on December 14, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM via Zoom.
The event will highlight the results of the impact evaluation conducted by Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) on “Project BRAVE: Breaking Ascent of Violent Extremism” in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Implemented by the Synergeia Foundation, Inc., this initiative aims to strengthen local governance in settling disputes and resolving conflicts through the Barangay Justice System (BJS).
The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Project BRAVE in increasing community awareness and trust in the BJS. It also explores the knowledge and capacity of service providers in mediating conflicts through formal BJS processes. The study’s findings derived from data collected in 98 barangays across Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, and Sulu, highlighting the statistically similar control group and treated barangays. It saw positive increases in knowledge among Lupon members or appointed community mediators on mediation strategies and procedures, as well as enhancements in community awareness within treated barangays.
