The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) and the Griffith Asia Institute of Griffith University are jointly organizing the "Australia-Philippines Policy Forum: Economic Diplomacy and the APEC Agenda" to be held on August 27, 2015, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, at Diamond makati Residences in Makati City.

This inaugural partnership between PIDS and Griffith Asia Institute aims to serve as a platform to discuss the current status of the Australia-Philippines bilateral relationship, with a particular focus on the broad economic partnership and their roles in multilateral cooperation such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). Through this policy forum, both institutions are also seeking to strengthen the collaboration between APEC study centers (ASCs) in the conduct of research and knowledge dissemination on APEC matters. PIDS has been leading the Philippine APEC Study Center Network (PASCN) since 1997 while Griffith Asia Institute is one of the ASCs in Australia.

The organizers hope to raise awareness of APEC among Philippine government agencies, business groups, civil society, and media through this forum. PIDS and PASCN successfully spearheaded the APEC Study Centers Consortium Conference last May 12-13 in Boracay Island, Philippines, as part of the Second Senior Officials’ Meeting and Related Meetings of the APEC 2015 Summit. This policy forum is part of PIDS’, PASCN’s, and Griffith Asia Institute’s continued support to APEC 2015 and to APEC initiatives as a whole.
