Year-on-year headline inflation rate at the national level picked up by 0.3 percentage point to 7.9 percent in December from 7.6 percent in November as the inflation rates for all the commodity groups except for housing and repairs (H&R) moved upward. Inflation a year ago was 3.1 percent. The average headline inflation rate for the year 2004 was posted at 5.5 percent,
higher by 2.5 percentage points than 3.0 percent in 2003.
The Philippine Peso has slightly gained strength in December 2004.The average exchange rate went down from P56.322 in November to P56.183 per US dollar just before the year ended.
The 91-day Treasury bill rate has averaged 7.79 percent during the month of December 2004. This is slightly lower than November`s 7.872 but significantly higher than December 2003�s 6.246 percent.
