State think tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) continues its research dissemination effort through a seminar-forum featuring analyses of Philippine economic prospects and the challenge of job expansion and development.

Themed "The Jobs Challenge: Choosing between the Beaten Path and Its Alternative", the PIDS event will be held on April 3, 2014, 1:30 to 5:00 pm, at the Romulo Hall, NEDA sa Makati Building, Amorsolo St., Legaspi Village, Makati City.



The program has two parts. The first part will feature (1) the highlights of the Asian Development Bank`s (ADB) Asian Development Outlook 2014, to be given by Dr. Akiko Terada-Hagiwara, Senior Economist at ADB, and (2) The Philippine Economy in 2013 and Prospects for 2014, authored by Dr. Gilberto Llanto and Dr. Adoracion Navarro, PIDS President and Senior Research Fellow, respectively.

The second part is a presentation titled "Labor Policy Analysis for Jobs Expansion and Development", which will be given by Dr. Vicente Paqueo, Dr. Aniceto Orbeta, Dr . Leonardo Lanzona, and Mr. Dean Dulay, Visiting Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow, PIDS; Professor, Ateneo de Manila University; and Research Consultant, PIDS, respectively.

The presentations of PIDS are part of its newest Economic Policy Monitor, an annual publication of the Institute since 2011 that provides an analysis of macroeconomic trends in the country and an in-depth study of a socioeconomic issue that has a critical significance for sustained and inclusive growth. The forum aims to provide a venue for representatives from government, labor sector, employers sector, and civil society groups to discuss the issues pertaining to the lack of adequate and productive jobs in the Philippines and how this may be addressed.
