The provision and maintenance of clean water include sewage and septage management involving the treatment, sanitation, and safe disposal of wastewater. If systems and processes are compromised, wastewater can pollute the environment and impact public health, which, in turn, lead to economic losses across livelihoods and industries.

The Clean Water Act seeks to mitigate such impacts by protecting the country’s water bodies from pollution coming from households, industries, and agricultural production activities. However, as this infographic story shows, there are gaps in its implementation, including that of the National Sewerage and Septage Management Program (NSSMP). What is going on and what can we do?
