To familiarize everyone with key socioeconomic terms and concepts, we are launching this new social media series.
Our buzzword for this week is “conditional cash transfer”.
It refers to regular monetary support claimed by the poorest and most vulnerable households, provided they comply with conditions designed to improve their health and education. (Source: Republic Act 11310)
The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) is an example of a conditional cash transfer program.
A PIDS study showed that 4Ps beneficiaries spend the grants mostly for school-related expenses (allowance, uniform, projects, fees), food (rice, milk), and health (vitamins).
Know more about the 4Ps by reading “Giving Cash to the Poor: A Study of Pantawid Pamilya Cash Grants Generosity, Frequency, and Modality” available at https://pids.gov.ph/publication/discussion-papers/giving-cash-to-the-poor-a-study-of-pantawid-pamilya-cash-grants-generosity-frequency-and-modality
