Hello, PIDS friends! Here's our #PIDSFactFriday for the week on the water transport sector in the country.
A PIDS study that looked into the country’s water transport sector found that the Philippines has underinvested in public infrastructure for many years. This resulted in low-quality infrastructure and inefficiencies in the operation of seaports, which are the main infrastructure in the water transport sector. The study thus emphasized the need to upgrade the capacity, quality, and connectivity of existing ports as well as adopt a systems approach in designing transport policies. Seaports should also be well integrated into the transport system.
