Hello, PIDS friends! Here's our #PIDSFactFriday for the week on fake news.
A PIDS paper noted that modern communication tools, such as social media, have made the production and spread of fake news easier. It likewise emphasized that the sharing of fake news can either be unintentional or deliberate. To combat the perpetrators of disinformation, the paper noted that it is crucial to increase awareness of available fact-checking tools, train and engage citizens in fact-checking, educate children to be analytical early on in life, make media literacy part of the basic education curriculum, and view the fight against fake news as a civic responsibility.
