THE UST Economics Society launched a virtual event last Oct. 25 to 28, 2022, that focused on empowering the youth to voice their ideas and discover innovative solutions to economic challenges from well-versed people in the field. The event is centered around the theme of "Attaining Equity in the Pursuit of Sustainable Growth."
This virtual event is headed by Gregory Mark Salameda, the executive vice president, and Justine Diokno, the VP for Academic Affairs of the UST Economics Society. In the first part of the event, a webinar was held wherein the UST Economics Society invited two renowned economists.
Dr. Bernardo Malvar Villegas, a visiting professor of IESE Business School in Barcelona, a professor at the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P), and a research director of the Center for Research and Communication, Manila, talked about the Strategic Plan for the Philippine Economy. He provided a SWOT analysis of the Philippine economy, highlighting the country's strength as being resilient in surpassing numerous recessions happening worldwide.
Dr. Francis Mark Quimba, a senior research fellow at the Philippine Institute for Development Studies and director of the Philippine APEC Study Center Network, presented How the Philippines Fare in Meeting the Asean Economic Community Vision 2025.
In the second part of the virtual event, the academic organization also held competitions exclusively for the University of Santo Tomas Business Economics students–an Informative-Video Making contest and a Quiz bee for the freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. To formally close the event, an awarding ceremony was held on Facebook Live last October 28, 2022.
