Hello, PIDS friends! Here's our #FactFriday for the week on the Sustainable Livelihood Program.

A PIDS study evaluated the microenterprise development assistance component of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) implemented for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries. The qualitative data revealed serious business project implementation issues, including substantial business closure rate, members’ low participation in business operations, lack of earning opportunities, management issues, and low profitability. To improve SLP’s effectiveness, the study recommends packaging the livelihood assistance with supporting interventions, such as life skills coaching and savings promotion, improving project development and selection, and strengthening capacity building, business monitoring, and technical support.
