Hello, PIDS friends! Here's our #PIDSFactFriday for the week on the Philippines' readiness for digital trade integration with the Asia-Pacific region.
Using the Regional Digital Trade Integration Index framework, a PIDS study found that the Philippines generally has an open policy environment for digital trade, thus, ready for digital trade integration with the Asia-Pacific region. Its best areas (i.e., having a nonrestrictive policy and regulatory environment) are in terms of tariffs and trade defense measures, cross-border data policies, and intermediary liability and content access. Its worst areas (i.e., strongly restrictive policy and regulatory environment) are in public procurement, foreign direct investment, and telecommunications infrastructure and competition.
