Hello PIDS friends! Here's the #PIDSFactFriday for the week on the livestock industry in the Philippines. A PIDS study noted that shifting to more competitive and higher value commodities like livestock would do much in enhancing the livelihood of smallholder farmers and micro, small, and medium enterprises within the agricultural sector. However, the lack of strong link between the government and the private sector makes it difficult to comprehensively assess the livestock industry. The study also stressed that although the livestock industry is led by the private sector, the government should still provide strong guidance and a functional enabling environment.
