A PIDS paper noted that the different types of risk that societies face are so interconnected that when they occur, various shocks can impact an economy or a cluster of interconnected economies, or even the global economy. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is a reminder of how an outbreak of a disease can disrupt people’s lives and cause significant economic, social, and political disruptions across the world. The paper underscored the importance of using evidence-based resilience thinking in analyzing risks and their potential impacts and in designing appropriate interventions. Policymakers, the paper added, should have a good understanding of risk analysis and management.
