A PIDS study analyzed the prospects of the electric vehicle (EV) industry in the Philippines. It identified as strengths the strong government support as demonstrated by policies and programs promoting the EV industry, the presence of local EV manufacturers, the positive outlook of industry players and consumers, and the manufacturing capabilities of the country in automotive and electronics manufacturing. However, these are stifled by certain weaknesses, such as the low level of technology utilization in manufacturing and the lack of adequate infrastructure like public charging stations. There are also consumer concerns over electricity costs related to charging, as electricity prices in the Philippines are among the highest in Asia.
