A PIDS study found that Filipinos’ strong family ties facilitate international labor migration. Households with past migration engagement are more likely to have someone in the family to also migrate abroad. This is through the provision of financial resources, migration-related information, and job referrals. The study concluded that international migration in the Philippines is an intergenerational phenomenon.
