Hello PIDS friends! Here's our #PIDSFactFriday for the week on forest protection.
A PIDS study found that the country’s forestlands have slightly increased from 23 percent in 2010 to 27 percent in 2015 due to government initiatives in the forestry sector, such as Executive Orders 23 and 26. However, they are still at risk of deforestation because of decades of lax regulations and poor governance. Policies have been more attentive to attaining positive economic outcomes but barely focused on the conservation and protection of forestlands.
