This virtual webinar will discuss two PIDS studies, namely, “An Assessment of the Expanded Program on Immunization in the Philippines: Challenges and Ways Forward” and “Primary Health Care for Noncommunicable Diseases in the Philippines”.
The authors of the first study, PIDS Research Fellow Dr. Valerie Gilbert Ulep and PIDS Supervising Research Specialist Jhanna Uy, evaluated the country’s expanded program on immunization in terms of coverage, timeliness, and equity of administration. They also probed into the implementation of the program by identifying supply-side challenges that could have hindered the achievement of national immunization targets.
In their second study, Ulep and Uy, and coauthor PIDS Research Analyst Mr. Lyle Casas, assessed the readiness of the country’s primary health care system in managing noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), such as cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes. They identified specific challenges in governance, financing, service delivery, and health human resources that hinder the realization of a comprehensive and continuous delivery of NCD services in local communities.
