This virtual event will present two discussion papers, namely, “Cross-Border Issues for Digital Platforms: A Review of Regulations Applicable to Philippine Digital Platforms” and “Cross-border Data Regulation for Digital Platforms: Data Privacy and Security” both written by Atty. Aiken Larisa O. Serzo, consultant at the University of the Philippines Law Center Technology Law and Policy Program and a senior associate and head of the Fintech Practice at the Disini Buted Disini Law Offices.
The first paper identified policy issues in the country’s laws and regulations vis-à-vis digital platforms and how these may hinder the Philippines from innovating and participating in the global digital economy. The study suggested areas for policy consideration and a regulatory review to develop a coherent and viable regulatory policy for digital platforms in the country.
The second study discussed the implications of data protection regulations on the operations of digital platforms. It provided an overview of the existing international frameworks and a snapshot of the regulations of some Asia-Pacific countries on the transfer of data to offshore jurisdictions. The research also identified regulatory and policy actions that may be considered to boost the country’s digital economy.
