The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) will hold a public webinar on October 17, 2024, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM via Zoom. It will feature two PIDS studies focusing on addressing the skills mismatch in the Philippine labor market and the role of skills in determining employment outcomes.

The first study titled “Inputs to the Philippine Labor Market Information System and TESDA’s Skills Anticipation and Prioritization of Skills Requirements Framework” addresses the broader issue of skills mismatch in the country, highlighting the need for a well-functioning Labor Market Information System (LMIS) to better anticipate and meet the skills requirements of the economy. It focuses on how data collection, partnerships, and institutional arrangements can support the development of a robust system to align education outputs with labor market needs.

The second study titled “Labor Market Structures, Pay Gap, and Skills in the Philippines” provides a skills-based analysis of the labor market, identifying specific skills that are in demand or lacking. It highlights key sectoral disparities between workers in elementary occupations and agriculture and those in Information Technology and Business Process Management and manufacturing and the need for targeted skill development to fill hard-to-fill jobs. It emphasizes the importance of developing targeted technical and analytical skills to address labor market gaps and improve wage equality.
