40 Things (You Just Might Not Know) About PIDS (15/40): Development Policy Research Month
For 15 years during the month of September, the PIDS has been leading the celebration of the Development Policy Research Month (DPRM). The DPRM started in 2002 through Proclamation No. 247 issued by Malacanang. This nationwide celebration underscores the importance of policy research in policy formulation, planning, and decisionmaking. The DPRM also aims to cultivate a strong culture of research and research use among decisionmakers. It also seeks to raise the public’s research and information literacy on socioeconomic issues. As the government’s lead policy think tank, the PIDS was designated to oversee and coordinate all activities related to the DPRM celebration.
This year’s DPRM theme is “Strengthening Decentralization for Regional Development” (“Pagpapatibay ng Desentralisasyon Tungo sa Kaunlarang Panrehiyon”) to highlight the need for in-depth reflections and evidence-based analyses not just on the proposed shift to federalism but encompassing the bigger umbrella of decentralization reforms. Through the various DPRM activities, we would like to emphasize the importance of critical thinking in the formulation of appropriate policy interventions for the development of our regions.
