Officials from state think tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) and socioeconomic planning arm National Economic and Development Authority met with the delegates of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) on March 12, 2015.
First Secretary Andrew Hodges of the DFAT’s Economic Section and Program Officer Elaine Valte-De Jesus interviewed PIDS and NEDA experts on the development and reform policy atmosphere in the Philippines. The DFAT is leading the charge to develop the new APEC structure reform framework for 2010-2016. The purpose of the visit was to consult development experts on the Philippines' long-term growth strategies and their alignment with APEC’s structural reforms, as well as the efficacy and progress of implementing these plans.
PIDS President Gilberto Llanto was accompanied by PIDS Acting Vice President Adoracion Navarro, and PIDS Senior Research Fellows Erlinda Medalla, Roehlano Briones, and Aniceto Orbeta. NEDA Deputy Director General Emmanuel Esguerra and Assistant Director General Rosemarie Edillon were also in attendance.
