Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 10) — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday said students are showing improved performance based on the initial assessment of the new MATATAG K-10 curriculum.
"With the decongested curriculum, the feedback we're getting is learners are more attentive, they participate more, they volunteer more," DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa told CNN Philippines' The Source.
Poa, however, said this is only based on field assessment the DepEd has been receiving. The department already tapped the Philippine Institute for Development Studies for a more in depth study of the implementation of the K-10 program.
The MATATAG curriculum started its pilot implementation on Sept. 25 in 35 schools in selected regions. This will be followed by a phased rollout starting with Grade levels 1, 4, and 7 by school year 2024 -2025; Grades 2, 5, and 8 by school year 2025-2026; Grades 3, 6, and 9 by school year 2026-2027; and Grade 10 by school year 2027-2028.
Poa said the DepEd will continue to monitor the new curriculum and implement adjustments if needed.
Meanwhile, the review for the senior high school program is still ongoing, according to Poa. The national task force assigned to handle the assessment plans to issue its initial recommendations by May next year, he added.
